TRACC – Mujeres Chadianas por la Resiliencia al Cambio Climático, por SOCODEVI
Project Information
The TRACC project aims to strengthen the capacities of rural women and young women and their communities in the province of Guera to adapt to climate change. These women are involved in the peanut and sesame sectors, which face challenges such as water stress and seasonal variability. By implementing nature-based agricultural solutions, conserving biodiversity and valuing ecosystem services, the project will strengthen the capacities of women and young women to adapt to climate change as well as their environmental and socio-economic rights, with the support of local, institutional and customary authorities committed to strengthening women’s land and environmental rights.
Awareness campaigns focus on the conservation of biodiversity and of strategic ecosystems for adaptation, while conservation and restoration efforts combat desertification and other forms of degradation. Innovative solutions promoting biodiversity, diversification and adaptation to climate change are implemented in the women’s plots through practical training. Other programs promote low-carbon energy technologies within families, contribute to women’s functional and financial literacy, as well as to their leadership.
The initiative also aims to improve the effectiveness of cooperatives and groups in developing climate-smart food systems, with and for women peanut and sesame producers, by focusing on products and services offered in this regard, such as seed banks and mechanisms to manage agricultural risks. This also involves strengthening the governance and management capacities of these organizations.
Feminist CSO networks and campaigns are supported to defend the rights of rural women from a climate and food justice perspective. A programme on gender-based violence is implemented in collaboration with local partners, as is a programme on positive masculinities.
