Task Force 5:
Policy & Governance

The Policy and Governance Task Force brings together policy advisors, legal experts, implementers, and advocates to ensure that Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are recognized, supported, and sustained through national, regional, and global governance systems. Our work is about shaping enabling environments — where good NbS practice is backed by good policy.
Who We Are
We aim to turn field experience into policy influence, connect decision-makers with evidence, and help close the gap between what works on the ground and what’s reflected in governance structures. Here’s what we’re working on:
- Policy Influence: Helping integrate NbS for climate adaptation into national development plans, climate adaptation strategies, and legal frameworks.
- Governance Insights: Identifying gaps, bottlenecks, and opportunities for more inclusive, responsive governance that enables NbS to thrive.
- Knowledge for Decision-Making: Synthesizing case studies and project results into actionable insights and tools that policymakers can use.
- Strategic Collaboration: Linking governments, communities, NGOs, and researchers to share policy solutions and build joint advocacy.
- Building Capacity: Supporting stakeholders — especially in local and national government — to understand and apply NbS policy approaches in practice.
Who’s Involved?
This Task Force brings together a bold mix of policy thinkers, project leads, governance specialists, and NbS for adaptation practitioners from across the P4C network. Members work in a range of contexts — from government corridors and community forums to protected areas and peri-urban zones — all united by a shared goal: embedding Nature-based Solutions for climate adaptation into the systems that shape our world.
- Task Force Members bring lived experience and strategic insights to the table — sharing how policies play out on the ground, where gaps exist, and what governance models support meaningful change.
- Chairs help steer the ship — coordinating meetings, anchoring the group’s work in the broader NAbSA mission, and supporting the development of tools and outputs that resonate with policymakers, practitioners, and community leaders alike.
Nature-based Solutions for climate adaptation have the potential to address climate, biodiversity, and social justice — but only if they’re backed by systems that support them. By making sure NbS are embedded in the rules, budgets, and mandates that shape the future, this task force helps unlock long-term, scalable impact.
