FERMA: Femmes résilientes au Moyen Atlas, by SOCODEVI
Project Information
The project aims to enhance climate change adaptation for women, particularly young women, and their communities in the Khénifra National Park (KNP) region of Morocco. It focuses on increasing the adoption of nature-based solutions (NbS) for restoring and conserving biodiversity in ecosystems like cedar forests, which support vulnerable women and their communities. The project also seeks to improve inclusive and equitable governance of these ecosystems, enhancing benefits from conservation efforts for women in cooperatives, especially concerning Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) like cedar by-products, honey, medicinal plants, and more. Immediate objectives include boosting stakeholders’ knowledge and capacity to implement NbS, increasing women’s access to climate-smart products, and empowering them to influence participatory forest development plans.
Target sectors include priority areas like NTFP and ecotourism, along with secondary sectors such as agri-food and handicrafts. The project directly benefits 2,650 people, including 1,500 women, notably indigenous individuals and members of about fifteen NTFP cooperatives, with 50% being young women. It also involves 1,000 men from the rights-holding communities of KNP and its buffer zone, as well as 150 members of forest co-management cooperatives and local institutions. Additionally, the project will raise awareness about NbS among nearly 20,000 people.
